What is the cost of illicit trade?
Illicit trade is a global problem that damages economies and threatens the lives and health of civil population. If illicit trade were a country, its economy would be larger than Brazil, Italy and Canada – and as large as Mexico and Indonesia combined (World Economic Forum 2019).

How does traceCORE work?
- Manufacturers get registered in the system
- The system provides unique and secure codes
- Codes are applied to products
- Any events associated with the product are tracked as the product moves across the supply chain
- At the checkout the code is read by the cash register and withdrawn from circulation
- If the code is absent or faulty, the product will not be sold and a violation will be reported
- Law enforcement, customs and tax officers can use the mobile interface to validate compliance during field inspections compliance
Mobile app empowers consumers and authorities to validate products
By reading the Data Matrix code on the packaging consumers get detailed information about the product:
- producer
- place of origin
- production date
- expiry date
- ingredients
- quality, eco or halal certificates
- carbon footprint or recycling information
Strong public control through consumer engagement helps the authorities tackle illicit trade.

A win-win solution for all stakeholders
Tackling illicit trade is an important objective for governments, legal manufacturers, businesses and consumers.
- Governments collect more tax revenue and customs duties.
- Legal manufacturers are protected from unfair competition, which makes supply chains transparent and attracts investment.
- The system provides valuable data for consumer markets control and effective reserves management.
- Legal manufacturers protect their brands and build customer loyalty, which leads to an increased market share and a better brand image.
- There is no more need to frequently audit legal manufacturers which reduces overall administrative burden on business.
- Producers use traceability data to optimize production, logistics, marketing and other processes.
- Traceability facilitates product recall and reduced associated risks.
- Product authenticity is validated at POS, which helps avoid buying low quality and substandard products.
- Customers can make an informed choice of products that comply with environmental, sustainability, fair-trade and halal practices.
